On this page you will find the history and photo for Line BB part 3.

The first part of the history you will find both in part 1, part 2 and here in part 3 - because all these three parts on Line BB goes back to the same dog. Line BB part 3 is a "branch" on Line BB part 2. For the whole story behind Line BB part 3 I have found it right to follow the line from the CC winners of today - back to the first known dog on the line: Butcher Boy....

On this page you will find photo of these Shelties:

Butcher Boy's son (Photo 1) Wallace (ex Jean) was sable like his father. We know very little about this early dogs but from photo Wallace's head had rather terrier-look and his ears was rather heavy. The history tells that our breed at that time looked like being put together from a lot of breeds......

From Wallace's two sons Rip of Mountfort (sable) (Family 10) and War Baby of Mountfort (sable) (ex Teena, collie, Family 10), it is War Baby who gave most influence on Line BB. It was a lot of CC winners in England by Rip but there are none dog-line leading to Norwegian owned CC winners.

War Baby's son Rufus of Mountfort (Family 23) was also a sable. He gained CC. Rufus became the father of the sable (Photo 2) Ch Specks of Mountfort (his mother was Ko Ko who's mother was the collie Teena, Family 10). These information tells us that Specks had collie blood both from his sire and dam side.

Having Collie-blood in the veins were not only special for the dogs mentioned above. The breeders had started with a very heterogeneous breed and it was more than "one" who found it necessary to do "something" to make the breed more uniform. From the history of the breed we understand that the dogs must have been smaller in size at that time (before the collie-cross) as they are to day. When the English Shetland Sheepdog Club was founded in 1914 the size variation were from 30,5 to 38 cm. It was mentioned that the type of heads varied from round apple head and triangle head with big variation in height from skull to muzzle. When talking about ears it is mentioned small pricked ears or big ears who nearly was hanging down. It also was big difference in the eyes sharpe and colour. Recognized was the body appearance, temperament and the coat quality .....

It is also mentioned that it is through these Collie-crosses that we got the colour blue merle - as this was unknown colour in Shelties. The Collie-crosses made an influence on head and expression for generations but it also brought in the size problem.

Ch Eltham Park Eureka

Ch Speacks of Mountfort was the father of Ch Eltham Park Eureka (photo 3 -above) (Family 11). I mention the dogs dam side with Family number to emphasize that all Lines and Families are closely linked together. I have found a little story about Eureka who as a puppy was named Peter Pan of Mountfort, and he had been on many hands before he at the age of 9 months was bought by the well known Collie and Sheltie breeder Mr Pierce. He renamed this promising puppy Eltham Park Eureka who developed into a sure winner where ever he was shown. He won at Crufts in 1926 and he won his title in early age. When looking through what's written about him it seems like his faults must have been few - the only thing mentioned on the negative side is that he had a rather short tale. From photo he looks very Collie-like. Ch Eltham Park Eureka showed good results at stud - this is well shown in the English Charts. Tracing back the Norwegian owned CC winners the "branches" coming through Eureka's two sons: The tricolour Ch Max of Clerwood (Line BB part 1) and the sable Eltham Park Evolution (Line BB part 2 and part 3). Eltham Park Evolution - son of Ch Eltham Park Eureka became champion in 1926. The sable Eltham Park Evolution's mother was a collie. Evolution became the father of Blinx of Clerwood (his mother was Chetsnut Blossom, Family 3 - who was daughter of the collie Chestnut Sweet Lady). Blinx of Clerwood who was a tricolour had one blue eye but in spite of this he won one CC !

Blinx's son Harvey was never shown. The only information I have found about him was that he was a sable and that he lived far north in the country ! Two of Harvey's sons Mac of Aberlour and Sandy of Aberlour, both sable, leads down to Norwegian CC winners.

Sandy of Aberlour who is the great grandfather of the sable dog Hector of Aberlour was shaded sable with a very good coat. He was never shown as he was to big and he also had a rather collie outlook. He behaved rather dominant and liked a little fight - a behaviour quite abnormal for a Sheltie. But the history tells that his temperament was not passed on to his son Ch Orpheus of Callart (photo 26 - below) (who's mother, Heartherbell of Callart, Family 16, was a daughter of Ch Nicky of Aberlour). Orpheus had an enormous coat in a very nice golden sable colour. He must have been of very good quality - as Mr Saunders (Helensdale) told he was afraid Orpheus could have beaten his dog Ch Helensdale Ace if they had been showed at the same time. I will also mention that Orpheus was one among many other dogs being monorchid at this time just after the war. Orpheus became Champion in 1950.

Orpheus is the father of Ch Riverhill Rescuer (photo 27 - above) (Family 5) who is told not to inherit his grandfathers bad temperament as the story tells he was a very peaceful dog ! He was shaded sable. He won his Champion title in 1952. Through three of Rescur's sons, Hartfield Herald (sable), Riverhill Ranger (tricolour) and Nærstadgård's Andor (sable, Norwegian bred - motherlife import) it is three "branches" down to CC winners in Norway.

Riverhill Ranger and Nærstadgård's Andor can be senn in Line BB part 2 - but from Hartfield Herald I have made this Line BB part 3. From Heartfield Herald there goes a "branch" through Ch Ebony Pride of Glenhill (photo 28 - above) (Family 1) to his son Carousel of Melvaig (born in 1958). From Carousel of Melvaig (born in 1958) we have four "branches" from his sons: Ch Sharval the Delinquent, Riverhill Rolling Home (photo 29 - below), Tornado of Melvaig and Lythwood Elanmore Fly-By Fortune, tricolour. The last mentioned is the father of two Norwegian owned CC winners: Lythwood Tangent, tricolour dog and Lythwood Moondust, blue merle bitch, both exported from England to Norway in 1971. Lythwood Tangent is the father of two CC winners.
